So far, Ned Lamont is the only serious possible contender. Here's what I think we can do to help:
Go out to meet Ned. I really think that the more support he gets in these early stages, the less likely he is to back down from the challenge. Once you meet him, you'll know he's serious. Because he wants to win, I think he needs a strong showing of early support to make his decision to run easier. He ought to be able to "hit the ground running" so to speak, by generating buzz and gathering supporters prior to his official announcement.
Lamont should be commended for making himself so accessible. He granted an interview to MyLeftNutmeg last week. He went to a small cafe in Hartford last night. He spent some time answering questions in the comments section of a weblog tonight. The next thing on his agenda appears to be an appearance at the New Haven Public Library on Saturday January 28th, 10:30am.
There's More.
Register as a Democrat. Get everyone you know that's tired of Joe Lieberman to make sure that they're registered Democrats. It's been kind of in vogue to register as an "Independent". Third party and independent support will be important in the general, but the primary is a race among Democrats.
Joe is vulnerable among liberals. This is one of those easy things for us to do. We're all registered Dems, but we can make sure that our friends are registered.
Spread the word. Joe Lieberman has some pretty good name recognition. Ned Lamont, Ned Lamont, Ned Lamont! Everybody you know should know this man's name. What are you having for breakfast? Ned Lamont. What color is your car? Ned Lamont. Who are you dreaming about cleaning Joe's clock in the primary on August 8th? Ned Lamont.
Once Ned announces his candidacy, there will be plenty more to do. These are THREE easy things anyone in Connecticut can do to help Ned, now.
